Carmelites and Dominicans collaborative ministry
End of an era for the Carmelites and Dominican collaborative ministry at “Karith”

Over 100 friends, collaborators and supporters of the Sancta Sophia community gathered at “Karith” in Warburton (VIC) on Sunday 31 January, to bring to closure 40+ years of the Carmelites’ ministry at the house of prayer and spirituality, 25 years of the Sancta Sophia Meditation Community and to remember with love and affection, Fr Ken Peterson OCarm who died on the 14 June 2020.
Fr Paul Cahill OCarm Prior Provincial, shared the Carmelite
story of “Karith”, a beautiful 10 acre property in the Yarra ranges which has been a sanctuary for many hundreds of people whose spirituality and faith have been nurtured and nourished in this sacred place. The Sancta Sophia Meditation community led by Carmelite, Fr Ken and Dominican Sister, Kathleen reached out to people of many faiths and traditions. Over the years a rich program of speakers and workshops in particular, a focus on eastern religions, contributed much to inter faith dialogue in the wider Church and society. Fr Paul expressed appreciation to all who ministered, contributed and supported the Carmelite ministry since 1973.
