Easter Letter

Dear Sisters I send you greetings as we celebrate the season of Resurrection in a time of quarantine. Perhaps there will be a message for you in these brief words:
And the people stayed home. And read books, and listened, and rested, and exercised, and made art, and played games, and learned new ways of being, and were still. And listened more deeply. Some meditated, some prayed, and some danced. Some met their shadows. |

And the people began to think differently. And the people healed. And, in the absence of people living in ignorant, dangerous and heartless ways, the earth began to heal. And when the danger passed, and the people joined together again, they grieved their losses, and made new choices, and dreamed new images, and created new ways to live and heal the earth, fully, as they had been healed.

These words, written as a reflection on the coronavirus pandemic, remind me of Easter…Resurrection…the promise of new life. But none of this would have happened without death…the darkness of the tomb…and unspeakable fear and doubt.
Perhaps with the dawning of Resurrection morn, some parts of our world will begin to see that the great stone of pandemic is being gently rolled away. For others, the wait may be longer. But however long the waiting may be, we live in the sure and certain belief that God’s tears have mingled with our own, and that God’s grace will continue to meet each one of us right where we are, and accompany us as we each do our part to help rebuild our blessed and broken world.
