Edgewalkers 2022
It is LOVE that matters.
All else will pass away.
For those Dominican women who participated recently in the Edgewalkers retreat at The Hermitage, Mittagong. A collective wisdom, generativity and love that characterised the experience that fell on the cusp of Advent.
It’s impossible to capture it all in words; may a few highlights suffice:
- The Moose enjoined each of us to step out, take a risk, experience the new and make the moose of life.
- The spirituality of New Zealand, the Solomon Islands and Australia came together beautifully in a meditative, prayerful and peaceful way. Individual symbols from our environment enhanced the sacred space.
Dr Carmody Grey’s Hook Lecture 2021 woke us up to the importance of love for humanity in addressing issues of climate change.- The sharing of Ilia Delio’s “It’s Love That Matters” was a wonderful visual treat which led to fruitful reflection, sharing and prayer.
- There was a cornucopia of poetry and spiritual writing from a variety of sources which will no doubt be revisited. Informal sharing of ‘favourites’ – poets, music, novelists, mystics, prayers and websites ‒ was a feature of the retreat.

- There was an opportunity for crafty creativity, inspired by wise words and a dazzling array of stickers!
- An agape feast marked the beginning of Advent with deep shared reflection on “the Message Isaiah got regarding Judah and Jerusalem”.
There was plenty of time for walking, reading, resting, talking and being silent. The setting of The Hermitage, which encompasses the Marist story and invites other stories to be at home, enhanced the retreat.

To conclude where we began:
God loves us and love is always humble and respectful; it will not force itself upon the beloved. God cannot love us to the full, that is, give full scope to God’s love, be as lavish with us as God wishes, unless we let God.
