The Vision
The vision of DEA is to continue and further enliven the works of DEA and takes its vision from the inspiration of Jesus Christ and the spirit of Dominic. It continues to build on the founding grace and traditions of each of the Congregations. It assumes the responsibility to further the Education Ministries of the Dominican Congregations as well as other works accepted by DEA in the future.
At the request of the Dominican Sisters of North Adelaide, the Dominican Sisters of Eastern Australia and the Solomon Islands and the Holy Cross Congregation of Dominican Sisters South Australia, the Holy See approved the establishment of Dominican Education Australia on 28 January 2015. DEA was formally inaugurated in August 2016.
Dominican Education Australia has oversight of six education ministries that were previously the responsibility of the three Congregations:
- Cabra Dominican College, Cumberland Park, South Australia
- Santa Sabina College, Strathfield, New South Wales
- Siena College, Camberwell, Victoria
- St Dominic’s Priory College, North Adelaide, South Australia
- St Lucy’s School, Wahroonga, New South Wales
- St Mary’s College, Adelaide, South Australia
The Board of Trustees of DEA has responsibility in civil and canon law for these ministries across New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia. The Trustees, in collaboration with each of the incorporated College/School Boards, ensures the school’s catholicity, fidelity to the Dominican charism, formation of Board members, excellence in teaching and learning and financial stability.
The Congregation Leaders (or their representatives) are the Sponsors of DEA and have oversight of the work of the Trustees. They are responsible for appointing the Trustees, ensuring that the sale of property complies with Canon Law, and approving the annual report prepared by the Trustees for the Holy See.
