Laudato Si’ – Sydney

“I urgently appeal, then, for a new dialogue about how we are shaping the future of our planet. We need a conversation which includes everyone, since the environmental challenge we are undergoing, and its human roots, concern and affect us all”, says Pope Francis in Laudato Si’, (n 14).
The Dominican sisters participated in a rally for Climate Justice which was prepared by the students of Santa Sabina College, who created many great placards for us. In everyday life it is the responsibility of each one: “We accept responsibility to limit carbon emissions, to avoid the use of plastic, to reduce the use of water, to try to separate our waste, to reduce meat in our diets, and to show care of other living creatures”.
We are part of Nature, even if we live in a city and often seem to be far from countryside. We can go for long walks or bring nature symbols into our home.
By the year 2100, our planet could be 4°C warmer with a daily level of heat that today is in the Sahara Desert. Australia could be one of the worst continents to live on.
From Laudato Si’:
“Teach us to discover the worth of each thing, to be filled with awe and contemplation, to recognize that we are profoundly united with every creature, as we journey towards your ultimate light.”
