Palm Sunday Walk
Justice for Refugees

On Sunday 2nd April 2023, Sisters Margaret OP and Sheila OP gathered in Melbourne with hundreds of people from many organisations and faith traditions for this march. The aim was to reflect upon our collective values of compassion, respect for human dignity and the common good, in deep solidary with asylum seekers and refugees and to raise awareness of their plight.

Harrowing stories of detention, imprisonment, deprivation, and unjust treatment of those who should be given welcome in this land, were shared. Speakers called the government to address the cruel and harmful policies that have been in place too long and to pledge our long-term commitment to achieve a humane outcome.

All people seeking protection as refugees need to be treated fairly and with compassion. It was heartening to see the young from schools, the grandmothers for refugees and many others believe that together we can do better to raise awareness and bring about transformational change.
