Statue of St Dominic
We are so grateful to witness the blessing of the statue of St Dominic on the feast day of Catherine of Siena, by Fr Stephen Kamoa OP. The statue was donated by Karen Hayward in memory of her aunt, Sr Amata OP, one of the first pioneer sisters to the Solomons in 1956.

Karen and her husband visited the Solomons in 2018. Karen was thinking of her aunt, Sr Amata, and had come with an idea of how she could make a contribution in her memory. That’s how the statue of St Dominic came to be.
Sr Saniella had invited us for the opening of their local church at Ando and Karen and her husband joined the celebration. They were welcomed by Archbishop Cardone and the congregation. The Archbishop during the feasting discussed who could be asked to carve the statue.
We would like in a very special way to acknowledge the following people on behalf of the community at Henderson, for their contribution and generosity. We are grateful and thankful!
To Karen and Les for initiating and funding the project. Archbishop Chris for arranging the carvers. Liborio, Stephen and Joseph for their artistic, creativity and commitment and the community at Henderson for their hospitality to the workers.
This is the first ever Statue of Dominic carved by a local. Congratulation to you all.
